Dirty South Beats
I was used to be a Dirty South rookie years ago. But I loved it. Dirty South beats are like trap beats, but in an old fashioned way. When everyone was rocking with boom bap artists and the old school hip hop scene was a trend I was already playing the Dirty South game. People like DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz and a lot more released a lot of Dirty South songs years ago.
The Dirty South is a place before it is a tempo. Records from Atlanta, Memphis, Houston and New Orleans share one thing above all: low end built for a trunk rather than a laptop speaker. Add an organ, a whistle, a chanted hook and a low end that refuses to sit still, and you have the region in a sentence. The rhythms stayed slow and the drums stayed wide, which is why a dirty south beat from the mid nineties still sounds current.
Dirty south instrumentals from the Lil Wayne and Rick Ross run
Our dirty south instrumentals cover the run from that decade to the ringtone era. The dirty south rap beats with the bass turned up are the obvious ones, but the dirty south hits that aged best are the ones built on a single loop and a hook nobody had to be told twice. Rick Ross is the polished, luxury end of the sound and Lil Wayne is the punchline engine that sat on top of it, with the atlanta trap type beat row carrying the lineage forward.
