Gangsta Beats
Gangsta beats are all about what you talking about. A lot of rappers in the Hip Hop and Trap scene used to spit bars on gangsta beats, such as Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Coolio, N.W.A., but also artists such as Gucci Mane, Young Thug, 2 Chainz, etc.. There’s no sub-genre linked to the gangsta music.
Gangsta rap beats are built to carry weight. Somebody is telling you what happened, and the instrumental should not compete with that: an organ or a whining synth line, a bass that walks more than it jumps, and a drum pattern simple enough to leave the middle of the mix empty for a voice. When it works, the loop sounds almost boring on its own and completely different with a verse over it.
Gangsta rap beats with the Snoop Dogg and Gucci Mane weight
The west coast end is where the page starts, with the G-funk glide Snoop Dogg rode, and the trap era is the other half, where a gangsta trap type beat puts the same storytelling over rolling hats and sliding subs. Gucci Mane lives in that seam and moved the sound forward twice. If you need gangster rap beats for a diss track, the gangsta rap instrumental here will take a delivery that is already angry and give it somewhere to land, which is also why the best gangsta rap beats are the emptiest ones.
