If you have been a little time in this world called Rap, you would have known Jay Z even before me! Shawn Corey Carter or more known as Jay Z is a rapper who has a long musical career.

Not only is he a part of rapper but he works as a record producer and entrepreneur. He is considered one of the best rappers all around the world and it’s truth that he has sold many albums over the world and he has 19 Grammy awards. They are 3 of his albums on the Rolling stone magazine classification of the 500 best albums in the whole music history.

One peculiarity of him is that he is considered by Forbes magazine the wealthiest rapper in the world. In his early life, he started with music when his mother bought him a Boom-box for his birthday. Then, he began freestyling, writing lyrics and following the artists of that moment.

What about his musical career?

His musical career it isn’t over. However, we have to judge the facts of it before! First, the period between 1995 and 1997 is a period of self-taught and independent because any discography made him a favor and nobody contracted him. So, he launched his own discography and he published his first album called Reasonable Doubt. This album had a good acceptance by the critics. Then, Def Jam contracted him and he published his second album called In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.

The second period was between 1998 and 2000, it started with the release of Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life which had his biggest, greatest hits like Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem). This CD is considered the best CD in Jay Z’s musical career.

One year after that, he released another album called Vol. 3… Life and Times of S. Carter. It had loads of bad reviews because people thought that Jay Z’s sound was turning to pop music. In spite of this, he picked a great number of sold copies, more than 5,6 millions. An interesting thing of him is that he liked to introduce new artists like Beanie Sigel and Freeway and he released an album, in order to get to know the newest rap artist, called The Dynasty: Roc La Familia.

Jay Z and The Blueprint

The third period is between 2001 and 2002, competition left a print for many rappers, even the most known. Furthermore, they had a competition with Jay Z were Nas and 2Pac. These artists made a musical battle throwing songs to the others to win more public and make fun of the other artist. Jay Z published the album number 6 of his musical career and it was called The Blueprint.

This CD, which had some songs produced by Kanye West, was incredible and had a great success and hit number 1 in Billboard list. In 2002, he released a new CD called The Blueprint 2: The Gift & the Curse which had two big hits named as Excuse me Miss and 03 Bonnie & Clyde. One of the last songs made with The Notorious Big made a best song named as A Dream.

The next period is between 2003 and 2005. Here, Jay Z made an amazing CD which had many important producers and had some of the best known songs of this artist. Jay Z collaborated in a CD with R. Kelly. In this period, Jay Z announced his retirement of the music world. However, truth to be told, he worked in several musical projects like tours and collaborations. In 2004, he was named president of Def Jam Records.

The next step in Jay Z musical career is between 2005 and 2007, this step started with a concert in New York that it was named as I Declare War. It had many controversial reviews and rumor has it that some artist was fighting a war with Jay Z at that time. In this concert were many collaborations, news and everything that was crucial in Jay Z music life. The most surprising thing in this concert is the end of a big rivalry and war between Nas and Jay Z. They made “paz” and sang a song called Dead Presidents on the stage, mixing two different songs of both artists.

At the end of 2006, Jay Z launched a new album called Kingdom Come who had a good position in reviews and musical lists. The next year, he launched a new CD that hit number 10 in his musical career called American Gangster, which had a big inspiration of the film with the same name made by Ridley Scott. Some people said that Jay Z was prepared to release the The Dinasty Roc: La Familia 2 instead of this CD. However, he preferred to launch American Gangster for the big influence of that film in him.

Furthermore, the next step in Jay Z musical career between 2008 and 2011 started with the announcement that Jay Z would headline the 2008 Glastonbury Festival. It had many bad reviews and had loads of controversy, although after this announcement all the tickets were sold.

In September of the same year, he finally published his CD called The Blueprint 3 which became number one in Billboard list 200. In 2010, Jay Z collaborated with Eminem doing concerts in New York and Detroit which were so extremely popular that they had to make one again in each city.

In August, the collaboration between Jay Z and Kanye West was creating and developing an EP called Watch The Throne that at the beginning was going to have 5 themes. Eventually, it turned a large LP because they could not make it shorter.Nevertheless, this album had tons of positive reviews and become famous all over the world. In 2011, he launched a web site named as Life + Times to include many themes, not only music.

The last musical step in Jay Z career before the present day, has started in 2012. He collaborated with several different artists and made a new festival in Philadelphia called Budweiser Made in America with many different kind of musicians. He has been working in many albums of other artists like Nas, Drake

Jay Z has been nominated 9 times for Grammy awards in 2014. In the same year, with his wife Beyonce, he did a song called Drunk in Love. It is not the first time that they have worked together. For example, they did it in Crazy in Love.

To summarize it, Jay Z has been one of the most active artist and playing continuously all around the world. It is not possible to deny that he’s one of the biggest and best rap artists and if you have to talk about rap and its biggest hits, you will need to talk about Jay Z albums.
