Lounge Beats
Lounge beats are often used as a mix of Trap Beats and Club beats. A bit more commercial and still playable in the club but they aren’t club or trap beats as is. Usually they sound like trap beats, but with different melodies. More catchy and easily enjoyable for the random listener that’s not often used to listen to trap music.
Lounge beats are the commercial edge of a trap catalogue: club type beats that carry a sung hook instead of a rapped one, club music beat drops clean enough to survive a loud room, and lounge beats written so a guest singer has something obvious to grab. The melodies are catchier than the drums are heavy, which is the whole trick. A listener who never plays rap can hum one of these after a single pass and still catch the 808 doing the low work when the hook returns.
Lounge type beats for Don Toliver and Beyonce lovers
The voice on top usually carries the record. Don Toliver type beats want a verse delivered almost conversationally before the hook opens up, and Beyonce type beats own the versions where a layered chorus is already implied by the chord. The best lounge music rarely works as an instrumental alone: it works because a singer can be heard over a room that is talking. Look at the examples of lounge music on this shelf and all of them survive being played mid conversation.
