Rap Beats
Don’t confuse rap with hip-hop, because, although they are deeply related, they are not the same. It’s okay to use them as equivalent terms from time to time, but if you do, I want you to at least do it having clear that there is a difference between both things, and that you know how to separate them when you want to express yourself properly. Let it not be said that you do not leave here with the lesson learned.
Rap is the act, hip hop is the culture it grew up inside, and that difference matters the moment you pick a beat, because a rap type beat only has to do one job: hold a verse. A rap type beat instrumental with a plain loop and no drop leaves a writer alone with the bar count, a rap type beat freestyle with space in the second half is made for a first take, and the rap instrumentals here are organised around flow rather than mood.
Rap type beats for a verse: the Chief Keef and Doechii ends
The lineage on these pages runs from the Chicago rooms Chief Keef filled in 2012, sparse drums and a single melodic line, to the busier, genre bending writing Doechii does now. Both need the same thing from the instrumental. Look for rap beats free download entries when you are testing ideas, rap instrumentals for sale when the track is going out, and a rap beat maker tag when you would rather build the loop yourself. A hip hop rap type beat with a hook already in it is the shortcut when the bars are written and the chorus is not.
